This award recognises businesses that have not only invested the skills of their existing workforce to meet a particular business need, but have shown a commitment to developing the Somerset workforce of the future.
Sponsored by Wessex Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association
The Wessex Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association (RFCA) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting the 3000 tri-service Reservists and 14,000 Cadets across the seven counties of the South West (Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, the County of Bristol and Gloucestershire), as well as providing support and assistance to the employers of Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
Wessex RFCA promote the Reserve Forces and Cadets across the Wessex area through engagement with employers, business organisations, youth organisations, local government and authorities, MPs, the media and other influential groups, as well as the general public more widely.
As an organisation we work to improve understanding of the roles and needs of the Armed Forces in general and the Reserve and Cadet Forces in particular, and of the contribution they make to the nation and our region.
We foster, encourage and support the Cadet movements of all three Services, providing and maintaining accommodation used for training by Army and Air Cadets and supporting their welfare and recruitment. Wessex RFCA also employs the permanent staff and recruits Adult Instructors for the Army Cadet Force.
We acquire, maintain and dispose of land and buildings used by the Reserve and Cadet Forces, and carry out work to adapt homes for injured personnel, both Regular and Reserve.
Most importantly we ensure that the outstanding contribution, made to the local community by members of the Reserve Forces and Cadets, or in support of them by their Employers, is recognised and rewarded through awards such as Lord Lieutenant’s Award Ceremonies and Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
