Entries are welcomed from Somerset businesses that excel in their activities and believe they would be worthy winners of a Somerset Business Award for 2018. Winning companies are innovative, progressive and most importantly profitable.
Businesses can enter more than one category of award, but will have to make multiple applications on-line, making sure that they differentiate between the criteria of each award that can be found below.
Please find below further information on what this must include:
- Background on your business and a brief history
- Why your company should win
- How you are better than your competitors
- How your business has improved based on the category requirements
- An indication of how the business has benefited financially as a result of improvements in this category (turnover, profit/loss figures will be treated in confidence)
The Albert Goodman Family Business of the Year Award
The winning company will demonstrate that the family have had significant influence on the business, such that one or more family members are involved in the management of the business. The company will be financially successful and show a clear vision for the long term future of the business, including planned succession.
Young Business Employee of the Year Award
Nominated by their employer, this category is open to an individual aged 30 and under who has had a significant impact on the business and made a personal contribution to a project or the business as a whole. This might include career progression, performance, relevant personal or professional qualifications or specific training. The judges are looking for an individual who
goes above and beyond. The nominating company will need to support the entry and confirm the positive impact made by the nominee.
Technology & Innovation Award
Has the use of new technology developed by you, helped your business or other companies, to grow and offer new services or types of working? This category recognises firms in the technology sector and beyond who are using the internet, cloud computing, robotics, apps or even Artificial Intelligence to stand out in the market place.
New Business of the Year Award
For businesses that have been trading for less than 3 complete financial years. Judges will be looking for the “X Factor” of a new idea or a new business concept.
Investing in Somerset Award
Does your business live for all things local? This award recognises companies who are passionate about supporting Somerset’s economy through local activity and can demonstrate this through
their use of local employment, training, trading or regional supply chain etc.
Service Excellence Award
The judges are looking for not just “good” customer service, but a level of service over and above normal industry expectations and clear strategies for maintaining such a level of service.
NEW Creative Marketing & PR Campaign of the Year
Open to companies of all sizes across any sector in the Somerset business community, this award sets out to recognise and showcase the county’s most effective and creative approaches to marketing, PR or advertising. We are looking for innovative marketing campaigns with measurable results, irrespective of budget.
Each entry must include information under the following headings:
- Total budget & objectives
- Target audience & strategy
- Implementation & creativity
- Results & evaluation
- Why you think you should win
Skills for Growth Award
This award recognises businesses that have not only invested in the skills of their existing workforce to meet a particular business need, but have shown a commitment to developing the Somerset workforce of the future.
Somerset Manufacturer & Producer Award
This award recognises the most innovative and agile manufacturers and producers in the county. The judges will be looking for a commitment to proven research & development practices, a passion for continuous improvement and a solid track record of business planning and growth. Entries are welcome from all sectors whether volume or niche.
Charity of the Year Award
The winning Somerset-based Charity will need to demonstrate not just how much money it raises or spends, but also how by using fundraising and the contribution of volunteers, it makes a significant difference to those they work for.
Business of the Year Awards
All the winners of the “Business of the Year Awards” will have demonstrated how they stand out from the crowd in their category including ambition, profitability, growth, sound business planning, customer satisfaction and management of people – they will have a “Wow Factor” that is worth celebrating
