Back for its 12th year, the prestigious Somerset Business Awards officially launched on Thursday 9th June, with an audience of 50 influential business people, at the Mount Somerset Hotel, Taunton.
On Thursday 9th June 2016, the Somerset Business Award sponsors for 2016 joined together with local businesses, for the official launch of 2016’s Awards. Inspired businesses also had the opportunity to speak to the judges about the individual award criteria, their experience of the Awards, and receive insider tips and advice for entering.
Dale Edwards, CEO of the Somerset Chamber of Commerce – organisers of the Awards – officially opened the Awards, saying, “Each year we see an increase in the number of entries and the quality of entries received, and I have every confidence Somerset businesses will exceed our expectations once again. The integrity of the judging process is second to none, the judges are experts within their own fields, so we can be certain the most deserving winners will be celebrated. The Somerset Business Awards continues to be the most prestigious date in the business calendar for the county and I look forward to seeing what Somerset businesses have in store for us this year.”
The Awards culminate with a spectacular black-tie ceremony, taking place on Friday 21st October 2016, at Wellsprings Leisure Centre in Taunton – which has the capacity for more than 400 VIP guests to celebrate outstanding business in Somerset.

Beki Knowles, Account Manager and Charlotte Goodby, Account Executive, both of ADPR – sponsors of the Marketing and Promotions Award – conducted the ‘How-to Enter’ workshop, emphasising the great benefits the Awards can have for any business and encouraging those to enter. Abby Whittaker, Director of Sarah Hodge Hairdressers, also joined the stage to share the many benefits they experienced business as winners of the Albert Goodman Family Business of the Year Award in 2015.
This year the Awards welcomes new sponsors: Wessex Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association who have sponsored the Skills for Growth Awards and Clarks who have sponsored the Young Business Employee of the Year Award. Somerset businesses have a choice of 14 award categories to enter, with the winners of the Somerset Business Awards enjoying great recognition for their work and experiencing a welcome boost in business.
