The Business Resilience and Growth Award recognises those businesses who, despite the soaring costs of doing business, have reinvented their offering to go from strength-to-strength.
Many businesses have shown great adaptability to meet the challenges of today’s challenging economic climate to both thrive and grow.
It could be finding innovative ways to overcome the tight labour market and recruitment difficulties, or simply doing things differently in the face of high energy costs or lost overseas markets.
Entries must be able to demonstrate their response to adversity and demonstrate how rebuilding has enabled the business to show resilience and, ultimately, growth.
In addition, you will need to show:
- Examples and evidence of successful trading
- A clear business plan for the future

Does my business qualify?
All businesses entering the awards must be based within the district council administrative boundaries of Sedgemoor, South Somerset, Mendip and Somerset West and Taunton. Business can also enter if they are based within the following North Somerset Council and Bath and North East Somerset postcodes: BS21, 22, 23, 24, 40, 48 and 49 The business should have its head office within the defined eligible area set out above. If this is not the case, the entry MUST demonstrate that the enterprise has local autonomy over business planning, marketing, HR and budget within the eligible areas listed above. Award Judge
Nick Porter is Barclays Regional Manager for Business Banking in South West Counties. He also leads Barclays ‘Rebuilding Thriving Local Economies’ programme for Taunton Deane. Nick’s career working with businesses spans over 30 years, with the past decade focussed on supporting Somerset businesses, something he is particularly proud about having grown up in the area. Nick is an Inward Investment Ambassador for Invest Somerset and also sits on other boards and forums across Somerset to support wider initiatives, including Digital Somerset.

Barclays has launched its new economic growth initiative for rural communities in Taunton Deane, Somerset.
Taunton Deane has been chosen as the bank’s third local economy pilot location as part of its study into different types of communities.
